While people were gobbling down their turkey dinners and fighting their way through the crowds on Black Friday, open source news didn’t stop…but “The Weekly Wrap Up” did! To make up for last week’s holiday break, I’m serving an extra helping of open sauce source today!
- Simon Phipps expanded upon Stephen O’Grady’s blog post, arguing that the inherent advantages of an open source environment foster greater innovation in his ComputerWorldUK blog, “Open Source Nurtures Innovation.”
- On Ostatic, Sam Dean let us know that “Your Android Apps Can Run On a Computer, Too.”
- “Open Source and the Open Road, Part 1” was published on LinuxInsider by Jack M. Germain about how open source is advancing technology in the automotive industry.
- Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols gave his review of the newly released Mint 12 on his ZDNet blog: “Linux Mint 12: A Great Desktop Linux Stays Great.”
- The H Open published a story about the study by water&stone that determined, “WordPress the most popular open source CMS for second year running.”
- Paula Rooney wrote, “OSE developing blueprint for building industrial machines in post-apocalypse era,” on ZDNet about the “Global Village Construction Set” being produced by Open Source Ecology, which will help us quickly reconstruct civilization if the apocalypse happens in 2012. Phew!
- On opensource.com, Lori Mehen’s blog, “Open Source Cancer Research,” highlighted the benefits of the medical field adopting a more open source approach to cancer research.
- Glyn Moody’s ComputerWorldUK blog, “More UK Open Data Moves – and Why That Makes Sense,” detailed the 2011 Autumn Statement announcing the creation of a new Open Data Institute (ODI).
- This playful article from Rikki Endsley on NetworkWorld includes pet pictures that are too cute to be missed: “Everything I Needed to Know about Linux I Learned from My Pets.”
It looks like someone else is selling their own brand of open sauce! Yummy!

Thanks for serving up such a delicious helping of open sauce this week!
