There were a lot of organizations making open source announcements this week: Yahoo!, Facebook and Tufts University. However, none caused as big a stir as Citrix submitting CloudStack to the Apache Software Foundation, increasing competition in the cloud computing space. Here are these stories and more:
- Gigaom’s Ryan Lawler reported on Yahoo! open sourcing Mojito: “Yahoo open sources Mojito, a developer framework for any device.”
- Larry Dignan, on ZDNet, was one of the first to report on the big CloudStack announcement: “Citrix submits CloudStack to Apache.”
- Chris Crum wrote about Facebook’s announcement to open source Ringmark in his WebProNews article, “Facebook Open Sources Ringmark To Make Mobile Browsers Better.”
- “Forrester Predicts Increase in Use of Open Source DI Tools” was an ITBusinessEdge blog by Loraine Lawson on (former) Forrester Research Analyst, James Kobielus’s prediction that open source data integration tools will rise along with big data in enterprises.
- On Campus Technology, Leila Meyer reported on Tufts University open sourcing its Tufts University Sciences Knowledgebase (TUSK): “Tufts U Sciences Knowledgebase Goes Open Source.”
- “Linux Foundation updates kernel development study” was posted on The H, along with a great video on how the Linux kernel is built.
- David Eaves posted, “Next generation open data: Personal data access” on opensource.com about Chris Vein’s recent presentation on the US Department of Veterans Affair’s Blue Button Initiative.
