Lately it seems like everyone’s heads are in the clouds and eyes are on the skies, waiting to see what shape the big open source cloud platforms will take. The focus has intensified this week after Eucalyptus made a huge open source play, announcing that it will publish the source code for Eucalyptus 3.1 on GitHub. The Linux Foundation is even hosting its first conference dedicated to openness in cloud computing, with CloudOpen scheduled for August 2012. You can also weigh-in by sharing your cloud opinions in a recent Open Source Delivers poll! Now, from the clouds to the news:
- “Eucalyptus Moves to GitHub” by Joab Jackson on PCWorld, was one of the many articles on Eucalyptus’s open source announcement around its 3.1 release.
- OpenStack was also in the news with Paula Rooney writing about its highly anticipated “Folsom” release in the ZDNet blog, “OpenStack “Folsom” Slated for Sept 27.”
- On ITWorld, Brian Proffitt reported on SourceForge submitting its Allura platform to the ASF: “SourceForge Back-End Code To Be Donated To Apache.”
- Jason Hibbets discussed trends from the Future of Open Source Survey results and OSBC panel on opensource.com: “The Quality of Open Source Code Increases Adoption.”
- Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols wrote about Microsoft providing Skype 4 as its first desktop application for Linux in his ZDNet blog, “Microsoft Supports Linux Desktop.”
- On The H, DJ Walker-Morgan reported on the new “Adobe & HTML” standards site in, “Adobe Launches an Open Source and Web Standards Portal.”
The Linux Foundation has narrowed it down to five finalists in their T-Shirt Design Contest – Now it’s time for you to vote! I’m partial to “Inspired by Linux Arrow.” Which design is going to get your vote?
